Our sea vegetable farm Partners

Not just sustainable - regenerative

Kodiak, Alaska

Our sea vegetable farms in Kodiak are also special because they create additional nursery habitat for marine organisms AND they de-acidify the surrounding seawater. This creates a halo effect, which helps protect shellfish from the impacts of carbon dioxide emissions. As customers’ interest in ingredients with the lowest greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint continues to grow, we’ve established our operations in Kodiak because of its fully renewable electricity grid and designed our processing system to operate with zero Phase I emissions. We operate the largest sea vegetable hatchery in North America and have just over 60 acres of open ocean farm off the coast of Kodiak Island, Alaska. We grow our sea vegetables in partnership with local, family-owned farms. This provides sustainable income for future generations in these remote and struggling coastal fishing populations.

Baja California

Our onshore Sea Lettuce farm in Baja California uses only sea water (and NO freshwater), which is critical in a major agricultural region that is struggling with an extended drought. And the seawater that we send back into the ocean is actually cleaner than it was before we put it into our tanks. Not to mention that our farm is certified organic!
Sea lettuce grows extremely well in sunny Baja California, and when it reached the right size to harvest, our team gently scoops it from aerated, whirling pools. In Baja California — the renowned gastronomic and food-growing region and the Wine Capital of Mexico — we started by partnering with the local University to grow our sea vegetables in a dynamic biological environment, learning from renowned sea vegetable experts and grad students alike. We’ve taken all that expertise and are thrilled to now be operating our very own onshore farm in the same region.
