These super simple puff pastry cheese straws are an irresistibly crunchy, cheesy seaweed snack that will disappear as soon as you set them out. Loaded with white cheddar and sprinkled with our seaweed-packed Classic Marinara Seasoning, they’re a cinch to make—whether you use store-bought puff pastry or make your own quick puff pastry from scratch. Plus they’re perfect with a glass of bubbly or, my favorite, a rye Manhattan topped with a dark, syrupy Luxardo maraschino cherry.

Seaweed Cheddar Cheese Straws

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, defrosted overnight if frozen

  • 1 egg, beaten with a tablespoon of water

  • 1 ½ cups grated white cheddar cheese

  • 2 Tablespoons Blue Evolution Classic Marinara Seasoning


On a floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry until it’s about ⅛ of an inch thick. Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the entire surface of one sheet of the puff pastry. Sprinkle the egg-washed sheet with 1 cup of cheddar cheese and Blue Evolution’s Classic Marinara Seasoning. Carefully place the other sheet of puff pastry on top of the cheesy sheet and use a rolling pin to gently press the sheets together. Using a pizza cutter, cut the pastry into ½ inch thick strips. Twist each strip and press the ends onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use the remaining egg wash to lightly brush the twisted straws and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. Bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, checking to make sure they don’t burn.

Wait till they cool a bit and then, devour!
